Architectural Engineering

Characteristics of the study program

The study program focuses on the issue of designing residential buildings and simple earthworks, taking into account wider social, economic and environmental contexts of structural, material and technological solutions of buildings. It provides graduates with knowledge from 3D computer graphics and calculation procedures in the field of designing and assessing building structures and spaces from the point of view of architecture, statics, building physics, technical equipment of buildings, up to the level of implementation project documentation. Under professional guidance, the graduate can prepare project documentation for construction procedures and the implementation of even more demanding land structures, participate in the preparation and implementation of residential, non-residential non-manufacturing, non-residential manufacturing and non-residential agricultural and other buildings and has demonstrated competence in advocating arguments and solving problems.

Graduate profile - educational goals

A graduate of the Architectural Engineering study program in the field of Civil engineering is aimed at designing buildings, taking into account wider social, economic and environmental contexts. He knows how to use the 3D computer graphics and advanced computing procedures in the field of designing and assessing building structures and spaces from the point of view of statics, building physics, building services and HVAC systems and their environment. Can creatively develop basic theoretical knowledge towards a principled understanding of the issue and flexible handling of tasks aimed at the preparation of complex project documentation for construction procedures and the realization of residential buildings, including more demanding land constructions, as well as participate in the preparation and implementation of residential, non-residential, non-manufacturing, manufacturing buildings, agricultural and other buildings and their renovation. The wide multidisciplinary profile of the graduate is complemented by language skills.

Educational outcomes

Theoretical knowledge

Graduate:

  • demonstrates knowledge, concepts, principles and theories of architectural constructions and techniques of the architectural environment of buildings based on their ecological, material, static, physical, energetic, technological, economic and managerial nature,

  • knows how to use them in professional activities for architectural constructions with such a decision-making system that demonstrates acceptance of qualitative criteria, understanding of the connections and consequences of alternative solutions with the subsequent process of their optimization,

  • can use appropriate theory, criteria, practical procedures and tools to specify and solve technical-technological and economic-managerial problems of complex preparation and realization of buildings while understanding and accepting their architectural essence,

  • can perceive the basic aspects of the sustainable development of civil engineering and the assessment of the impact of buildings on the environment.

Practical abilities and skills

Graduate:

  • knows how to navigate the material base and use this knowledge to create functional and ecological buildings with a healthy internal environment,

  • demonstrates the ability to assess physically the details, elements and systems of building constructions, to carry out construction-technical surveys, to develop expert opinions and assessments,

  • is competent to statically assess and analyze buildings and their supporting structures,

  • can demonstrate knowledge in the design of building environment technology and assessment of its parameters,

  • is able to communicate acquired knowledge in technological design and management of processes related to the realization of architectural works,

  • has the skills to develop an economic assessment of costs and pricing in investment architectural projects,

  • demonstrates sufficient knowledge for the structural design of buildings when applying advanced computer graphics systems.

Complementary knowledge, abilities and skills

Graduate:

  • has the ability to accept the functions and aesthetics of architecture in relation to its technical-technological implementation,

  • is able to use his knowledge to evaluate buildings and their systems from a life cycle point of view and understands engineering solutions in their wider ecological, social and economic context,

  • has developed educational skills, knowledge and teamwork habits and the ability to organize his own education and further professional development.

Graduate employment

  • design engineer (in design and manufacturing companies),

  • technologist, technician (in investment departments, state administration departments, and local government departments),

  • in the preparation of architectural structures and building operation,

  • is prepared for a smooth transition to the second level of study.
