Department of Structural Mechanics

The scientific and research activity of the department is oriented to the solution of scientific problems of static and dynamic tasks. The activity is carried out through scientific domestic and international projects of basic research, applied research and solving of actual problems for practice. The members of the department participate in the elaboration of studies, expertise and provision of expert advice, expert activities, training and consultations in the field of statics and dynamics of buildings.

Due to the nature of the requirements in solving current problems, these activities are carried out by the department staff in close cooperation with other departments of the Institute of Structural Engineering and Transportation Structures:

• Static and dynamic calculations of steel, concrete, timber, adaptive, coupled and composite structures

• Geometric and physical non-linear calculations: rope, membrane and tensegrity structures, timber, steel, adaptive, composite and coupled structures, geotechnical calculations

• Dynamic analyses: natural and technical seismicity (earthquakes, excitation from machinery and traffic, explosions), analysis of airflow acting on building objects

• Static and dynamic analyses in software (ABAQUS, ANSYS, EASY, SCIA ENGINEER, DLUBAL, GEO5, MATLAB, MIDAS, ...)

• Structural assessments according to EC and required standards
