Dean's message

Basic information

The department focuses on the teaching of mathematics, descriptive geometry and applications of mathematics. The department is involved in research in those areas of civil engineering where mathematical modelling methods are used.

Pedagogical activity

The department participates in education in all study programmes of the Faculty of Civil Engineering TUKE of bachelor, engineer and doctoral studies. It provides teaching of subjects in the fields of mathematics, applied mathematics and descriptive geometry. The use of mathematical methods in practice is implemented at the workplace mainly in the field of applied mathematics through the MATLAB software. The modelling of tasks in descriptive geometry is mediated by the Geogebra software.

Scientific research activity

The department focuses on research in the field of applied mathematics with an emphasis on the development of advanced methods and tools necessary for the process of mathematical modelling and its application in various areas of civil engineering. These activities cover computations using finite element methods combined with nonlinear programming methods for simulations of mechanical systems with nonlinear response in the analysis of engineering structures, the solution of problems in multicriteria optimization with evaluation and decision making in the field of civil engineering, and the development of statistical methods needed for ecosystem modeling. The developed calculation tools use MATLAB software.
