Basic information

The department focuses on the theory and technology of the built environment with an emphasis on the energy performance of buildings in relation to the technical equipment systems of buildings. The department is oriented towards the quantification and formulation of conditions for efficient health, heating, cooling and ventilation systems and the dependencies characterizing the sources of heat or cold, with emphasis on intelligent systems and renewable sources.

Pedagogical activity

The department participates in the education at the bachelor and engineering degree level with its subjects focused on non-stationary processes of heat and mass exchange in buildings with a focus on the optimization of the design and operation of heating and air-conditioning systems with regard to the energy balance and the risk of microbiological pollution in systems of technical equipment of buildings.

Scientific research activity

The research activity of the department focuses on the theory and technology of the built environment with an emphasis on the energy performance of buildings in relation to architectural structures and systems of technical equipment of buildings, on research and development of renewable energy sources and their synergy with „green“ building structures, on research and development of new sustainable technological units and their combinations depending on the efficiency of the systems and its elements. Significant attention is paid to non-stationary heat and mass transfer processes in buildings, with a focus on the optimisation of the design and operation of heating and air-conditioning systems with regard to energy balance and the risk of microbiological pollution in systems of technical equipment in buildings.

Offer of services and activities for practice

Within the scope of activities for the building practice, the department focuses on:

  • processing of projects for technical building equipment professions - health engineering, heating and ventilation
  • measurement possibilities and processing of measurement results of hydraulic circuits, elements of heating systems
  • assessment of the environmental and economic suitability of using alternative sources of water supply for buildings
  • proposals and assessments of solutions for water retention measures in the building and its surroundings
  • preparation of energy certificates and audits of buildings
